Welcome to the Infinix GT 20 Pro review! At first glance, it’s clear that this is a gaming device, but the real question is: is it a good one? To make things interesting, I’ll be scoring each aspect of this phone out of 10, and by the end, we’ll see how it adds up to a total score out of 100. So, will this phone hold up? And can it function well as a regular phone for someone who isn’t a gamer? Let’s dive in!
First off, the weight of this phone is 194 grams. Depending on your hand size, it might feel a bit bulky when held with one hand, especially if you’re not gaming. However, if you have larger hands, it might feel just right. It’s comparable to the weight of the iPhone 15 Plus. Since this is a gaming phone, it’s designed to be held sideways, which helps distribute the weight comfortably during gameplay. Infinix includes a tempered glass screen protector, which is a nice touch for those concerned about protecting their device. While it’s not as tough as Gorilla Glass Victus, having a screen protector included is a great bonus. The phone has an IP54 rating, offering basic protection against dust and water splashes, though a better rating would have been appreciated.
If you look closely at the back of the GT 20 Pro, you might think it’s glass, but it’s actually made of polycarbonate. While I would have preferred glass for a premium feel, I understand that this choice helps keep the price down. The camera area is glass, and there’s a bit of aluminum on the side. This phone does attract fingerprints, so be prepared to wipe it down occasionally. The sides are made of plastic, but Infinix includes a durable plastic case that offers solid protection against drops and has cutouts for the loop light at the back.
Considering all these factors, I would rate the build quality of this phone a moderate 7.5 out of 10. The materials are good and used effectively, but I wish it had a glass back for a more premium feel.
Now, let’s talk about the design, which I believe gamers will absolutely love. Even with the case on, the phone maintains a gamer aesthetic. The unique light features at the back, combined with the blue material design, create a cool, cyber-inspired look. Removing the case reveals a striking robotic mecha blue color that really stands out. The overall appearance is a silvery blue with highlights that enhance the mecha blue concept. The design impressions on the back resemble a robotic style with individual pieces, and the hidden colors shine beautifully when light hits them.
I also appreciate the design and positioning of the cameras. They are symmetrically aligned in a squared-off position, and the camera bump is minimal, giving it a sleek look. To enhance the design, Infinix added customizable Mecha Loop lighting, allowing you to set different lighting patterns for various functions like incoming calls, notifications, and music. You can choose from 8 color combinations and 4 lighting effects. The party mode keeps the lights on continuously until you turn it off, though it may drain the battery faster. The GT Gameboot feature activates the lights when you’re gaming, adding to the immersive experience.
Additionally, the phone features an IR blaster at the top, allowing it to double as a remote control for devices like air conditioners. While there’s no headphone jack, it does come with USB-C wired headphones. This design earns a solid 9 out of 10 due to its overall aesthetic and attention to detail. The only downside is the lack of glass, which would have made it feel more premium.
The 6.78-inch screen is crucial for an immersive gaming experience. While it might be challenging for those with smaller hands to reach the top, the phone is primarily used sideways, which mitigates this issue. Whether you’re gaming or enjoying content, the large AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p by 2436 pixels delivers vibrant colors and decent image quality. The screen boasts an impressive 94.3% screen-to-body ratio, creating a borderless experience, especially with a black background. The edges of the display have a slight curve, making it comfortable to use.
With a brightness of up to 1300 nits, the display adapts automatically to your surroundings, ensuring clarity even in direct sunlight. The 144Hz refresh rate allows for quick interactions and smooth visuals. You can adjust the swipe and motion speed in the settings, giving you control over your display experience. While the 144Hz refresh rate enhances responsiveness, it does consume more battery. Thankfully, you can switch between 144Hz, 120Hz, and 60Hz to optimize battery performance.
Infinix has also added a dedicated gaming chip that utilizes Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC), making games that run at 60FPS appear smoother, comparable to 120FPS. This improvement is impressive, and I would rate the display an 8.5 out of 10.
Now, let’s discuss the phone’s gaming performance. It’s powered by the Mediatek 8200 Ultimate 4nm processor, which handles high frame rates and maintains smooth gameplay in graphically intense games. The phone manages high graphic settings without compromising performance, thanks to its effective heat management system that keeps it cool during extended gaming sessions.
Infinix has integrated XBoost software technology, offering three priority options for gaming: power, balanced, and performance. You can lock the screen brightness, super boost the game, and even lock the frame rate at 120FPS. The Esports mode blocks notifications and incoming calls, allowing for an immersive gaming experience with enhanced performance and stability. However, be aware that this mode may cause the phone to heat up.
Another cool feature is the GT light effects, which indicate the phone’s performance status. A green light means everything is good, orange indicates low performance, and red signals that something needs attention. This lighting indicator is not only functional but also adds a nice touch when gaming in the dark. While you might notice some lag after an hour of gaming, the fast touch responsiveness helps recover quickly. The battery charges quickly, allowing for hours of uninterrupted gaming. I tested it with games like PUBG, Mortal Kombat, Asphalt, and COD, and the GT 20 Pro performed admirably with minimal lag and only slight warmth during intense sessions. For its gaming capabilities, I would give it a 9 out of 10.
Storage is another important aspect for gamers. The GT 20 Pro comes with 256GB of internal storage, which may not be enough for everyone, especially with games like Call of Duty taking up significant space. Unfortunately, there’s no memory card slot, so you’re limited to the 256GB. While the phone does have a low storage management system to restrict certain apps when storage is low, this could be a drawback for heavy app users. On the bright side, it features 12GB of RAM, which can be expanded by an additional 12GB from storage. Overall, I would rate the storage situation a 7 out of 10 due to the lack of expandable options.
Despite featuring JBL audio, the sound quality is only decent for media consumption. The speaker can reach high volumes in quiet environments, but it struggles in noisy settings. While the audio quality is satisfactory for gaming, it could be better for vocals in movies and music. However, during gameplay, the audio shines, providing an impressive sound experience. For gaming, I would rate the audio quality a solid 10 out of 10, while for media consumption, I’d give it an 8 out of 10.
Battery life is crucial for a gaming phone, and the GT 20 Pro features a 5000mAh battery. Under light usage, it can last around 17 hours, but under intense use, it may drain in just a few hours. The phone comes with a 45W charger that can fully charge it in just 61 minutes. The charger connects horizontally, making it more comfortable for gamers. It also has several charging features to ensure smooth gameplay while charging, including AI charging protection and bypass charging to prevent overheating. I would rate the battery life and charging an 8 out of 10, as there’s room for improvement.
The camera setup includes a 108MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a depth sensor for portraits. The camera performs well in good lighting but can struggle in low light, sometimes producing unnatural results due to automatic AI effects. It can capture 4K at 60fps and 2K at 30fps. Overall, I would rate the camera an 8 out of 10.
The GT 20 Pro operates on Android 14 with Infinix’s custom skin, XOS 14 for GT. The animated logo with a glitch effect adds a unique touch. The phone offers personalization options, including themes for gamers and traditional users. The live wallpapers are interactive and visually appealing. I would rate the operating system an 8.5 out of 10 for its thoughtful design and gaming focus.
This 5G phone is expected to retail for around $300, which translates to approximately 400,000 to 450,000 Naira. For this price, I would also rate it an 8 out of 10.
In summary, the GT 20 Pro scored 81.5 out of 100. This is my personal assessment, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What would you rate this phone section by section?
